OnStar Virtual Reality

Challenge:
Most know how OnStar’s in-vehicle safety services benefit consumers. But OnStar has tech and tools to help First Responders too. How do we ensure First Responders understand all OnStar can do for them while continuing to build trust between OnStar and First Responders in the process?
Solution:
We’re taking our message directly to First Responders at industry conventions and conferences across the country via an immersive, virtual reality experience. Through VR, we’re helping First Responders “experience” how OnStar tech (e.g., automatic crash detection, GPS location data, injury severity prediction, etc.) aids in the crash response process from the POV of a driver, a 911 operator and First Responders.

Results:
By bringing our VR experience directly to First Responder events, we’re positioning OnStar as a valuable member of the community. More than 100 First Responders can participate at each event (with plans to increase capacity in the works). Increases in awareness and key message pickup, as well as general feedback on the experience, have been overwhelmingly positive. One participant may have summed it up best by saying, “Wow, I never knew OnStar could do all that.”
In short, by leveraging VR, we’ve created a memorable and visceral experience that impactfully conveys how OnStar’s technology continues to support First Responders and the crucial role they play.
